Just In! South Africa have been knocked out of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 and they will now play their remaining two games with heavy hearts. Usually, considered might in the ODI series and foreign tours, Proteas team displayed poor performance in this season of CWC. Now, after playing seven matches in world cup, their hopes to qualify the knockout stage have now officially died. A sad end for the South African cricket team fans, as their team will have to wait another four years to claim their first ever title of world cup.
Today, South Africa played their seventh match against Pakistan, who themselves were desperate for the victory. Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed opted to bat first after winning the toss. The openers Imam ul Haq and Fakhar Zaman both scored 44 runs each and set 81 runs for the first wicket. After that, Babar Azam took over the Proteas bowlers and smashed 69 runs for the Pakistan. But, the Super Star for the Pakistan in this match was Haris Sohail who added 89 handy runs in the last 10 overs. As a result, Pakistan set 308 for 7 in 50 overs.
But, South Africa had a terrible start when the lost Hashim Amla in the second over. As a result, Pressure built up on the middle order and things started to go worst for the South Africa. Though, Quinton De Cock and Fuf Du Plesis resisted for a while with 47 and 63 runs. But, after that no other South African batsmen could face aggressive Pakistani bowling attack. In the end, Pakistan wrapped up South Africa at 259 for 9 in the last over and won this match by 49 runs.
With that defeat South Africa are now officially out of World cup 2019. They played seven matches so far and won only one match, with the other one going abandoned. As a result, they mark only three points at the ninth place on the points table. From now on, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is over for South Africa, perhaps they should take time to reconsider their mistakes and prepare for the next world cup.
It all started with the first match, when England defeated South Africa by 104 runs in the inaugural match for the CWC 2019. After that, Dayle Steyn got ruled out of world cup due to his old shoulder injury and South Africa got never recovered from it. They lacked big partnerships, passion, good fielding, early wickets and now they get out of the ICC World Cup 2019. Perhaps, they should rethink over their mistakes and prepare for the next season.
