Now a days, Pakistan is touring South Africa for three tests, five ODIs and three T20s. After the previous test defeat, Pakistan lost the three match series by 2-0. However, the internet broke down over Pakistani poor batting line up, as they failed in both tests. Why all this happened? we will take a look at this matter, but lets have a look at the Pakistan vs South Africa test in South Africa history.
Pakistan played their first test against South Africa in a 1994/95 tour and they lost it by 324 runs. Saleem Malik was leading Pakistan in that tour as a captain. While, Saleem scored whooping 99 runs, no other batsman could manage to face the South African bowlers in the first innings. However, the legendary cricketer, Inzama ul Haq, who is the chairman of Selecting Committee of Pakistani cricket team now a days, scored 95 runs in that test. Whereas, no other batsman helped Inzi bhai to fight the battle.
Later on, South Africa toured Pakistan and they played only test in their tour against the hosts in 1997/98. Surprisingly, South Africa won that test too. However, as we are discussing Pakistan vs South Africa in South Africa test statistics here, so will not count that tour here.
In the same years of 1997/98, Pakistan visited South Africa for three tests. While, the first test ended in a draw, Pakistan won the second test due to fighting hundred from Azhar Mahmood, who scored magnificent 132 runs innings playing at number 7th position. However, Saeed Anwar, the opener hit 118 runs in the first innings to drag Pakistan to a 226 in the second turn. No other batsman gave a helping hand to Anwar in that innings too.
In the third test, South Africa fought back like true warriors. Whereas, Pakistan batting collapsed again. Saeed Anwar and Azhar Mahmood resisted in the second innings with their short innings, but it was too late. Pakistan lost their first chance to beat South Africa in the tests.
In years 2002/03, Pakistan once again traveled to South Africa for two tests. However, the results in that tour were even more shocking than before. In the both tests Pakistan had to face a forced follow on. Dnt ask me why? Lets me guess, collapsed batting once again. South Africa won that series by 2-0.
Again in 2006/07, Pakistan once again sailed for South Africa for three tests. This time South Africa beat Pakistan by 2-1. In the winning test, Inzi Bhai scored unbeaten 92 runs at number 7 batting position. This was followed by classic fifties by Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal in the second turn. Hence, Pakistan slipped away this time. Pakistan once again failed in the other two tests. Guess the reason?
In the previous Pakistan tour to South Africa in 2012/13, Pakistan lost all the three test with 3-0. The funny thing in that tour is Pakistan finishing at 49 all out in the first innings of the first test. Now, you can guess the rest of the stats in that tour.
One Man Stand will not win us the tests against South Africa. This is one lesson, that all these young cricketers in the Pakistani team should learn.
Pakistan vs South Africa in South Africa history is full of batting collapses from Pakistan. From, great Saeed Anwar to Inzamaul Haq and from Yasir Hameed to Misbah ul Haq, they all failed us. No wonder why the Sarfraz lead no 1 T20 team has failed in the test format. Moreover, all those bashing safraz to give up on the test captaincy should keep quiet now.
Pakistan will play the third test against South Africa which will be starting tomorrow. I wonder how worst it will be this time?
